Sickle Cell Disease Awareness
Sickle Cell is an issue close to our hearts and will always be a part of our legacy work. Raising awareness about sickle cell disease is essential for improving the outcomes of people with the condition.
Sickle cell disease is a severe health condition that affects millions of people worldwide. After learning of their daughter KJ's diagnosis at just three days old, KD and David launched themselves into advocating, educating, and raising awareness in the community about sickle cell disease.
One of the significant conclusions they reached was a commitment to a healthy lifestyle built around hope. For the Halls, this evolved into a pledge to ensure that their daughter – and young women facing a similar diagnosis – could fulfill their dreams. Regardless of their circumstances, all girls should have the opportunity to reach their potential.
About the Program
Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that damages red blood cells, affecting 1 out of every 365 African Americans. Health is wealth, which is one of the reasons the Foundation believes in providing education and awareness to women regarding the disease.
Along with education and awareness, the Foundation actively seeks alternative treatments and a cure to provide hope for our next generation of women leaders. Although a cure for sickle cell disease has yet to be found, research continues to gain more funding. At the same time, new gene therapies supply hope for an entire life to live and dreams to accomplish.
“There are incredible things happening right now in medicine in regards to the sickle cell disease. There’s a hope with new treatments and medications that are currently pending. Right now, our jobs is to make sure that we are providing the best support system to help KJ thrive and live a healthy and normal life as possible.”
