Annual ‘Women at the Capitol’ Event honors 19 Years of Women’s Leadership and Advocacy

In the spirit of celebrating women's leadership, The Center for Women & Democracy, in partnership with The Washington State Women's Commission and KD Hall Foundation, excitedly announce the return of their annual event, Women At the Capitol. The 19th annual event will be held in Olympia, Washington, on April 13, 2023.

The day includes three events on the Capitol grounds beginning at 2 p.m. and ending at 7:00 p.m. Women and allies of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend for an unforgettable experience learning about how the state government is working on progressing the rights of women, LGBTQIA+ peoples, BIPOC, and other underrepresented groups. The day offers an opportunity for attendees who are interested in the intersection between government and leadership to ask questions, get to know key players, and advocate for the issues most affecting women.

"We are delighted to host our long-standing event Women At the Capitol, formerly Kicking up our Heels, again this year in Olympia, WA." says Bao-Tram Do, CEO of the Center for Women & Democracy, "We have an exciting day of events planned including a tour of the capitol grounds, tea with the Supreme Court Justices, and an evening reception at the Governor's Mansion honoring the public servants working to advance and protect the rights of all Washington State women."

Closing the wage and opportunity gap is one of the main issues affecting the future of Washington state women. KD Hall Foundation Co-Founder KD Hall shares her enthusiasm for raising awareness at the event: “The KD Hall Foundation 30-year strategy plans on closing the wage and opportunity gap. We are 9 years into it, focusing on bringing awareness to the issue affecting girls and women worldwide. The second 10 years will be spent building out and doing intentional work to close these gaps. We are excited to partner with organizations that will still be working on this 30 years from now.”

Attendees can participate in all, or just some, of  three special events throughout the day. The Tour of the Capitol will take place at 2 p.m. followed by Boba Tea with Washington State Supreme Court Justices at 3:30 p.m. Ending the day is an evening reception where elected and appointed officials, government staff, and guests will gather at the Governor's Mansion. Food and drinks will be provided at the reception.

To increase accessibility for all women to attend, various levels of tickets are currently available for purchase. Tickets range from $20, for students or those who need financial support, to $150. Some tickets include transportation from Seattle to Olympia and a donation to support ongoing events like this one.

Women At the Capitol fosters inclusive networking opportunities for attendees to make friends, meet public servants, and learn about how to advocate for equity for all.
